On Monday, October 31st, The CityPlace Residents’ Association hosted our fourth annual Trick or Treat for Kids Halloween Spooktacular. The event was sponsored by Concord and a large candy donation was made by Sobeys Urban Fresh – Spadina.

There were 29 participating residential condos and local businesses at CityPlace. Each of these locations saw excellent participation by kids and their families. There were good stories everywhere in the neighbourhood, and people said they did not know that there were so many children living in our neighbourhood.

We couldn’t have done such a large scale Halloween event without the generous sponsors, donations, and volunteers and participating locations that helped to make this another great community success story! Thank you, everyone!

All CityPlace condos and our CityPlace Toronto Community Housing building have previously participated in this great event and we ask if you will participate again this October.

The sponsor, Concord Adex, will provide treats for you to hand out to our local trick or treaters. We encourage you to decorate your lobby to make the experience more exciting for participants and show off your CityPlace spirit!

The event will take place on Monday, October 31st, 2016 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The CPRA will provide colour posters for your mailroom informing residents of the day, time, and trick or treat locations.

We hope to have another great event, please confirm your buildings participation by next Friday October 21st by email at cityplacera@gmail.com

Save the Date: CityPlace Neighbourhood Art and Garage Sale

zone-swap-poster

Dear CityPlace Owners, Residents, and Property Managers,

On behalf of CityPlace Residents’ Association, we are working with volunteers to host a neighbourhood art and garage sale at Canoe Landing Park on October 22, 2016. We need your help in letting your condo residents know about the event. We are in the process of inviting charities like Salvation Army and Daily Bread.

The event is open to the general public. We want to encourage Cityplace residents to clean their condos or storage lockers and bring boxes of second hand personal effects that they no longer use to either sell or donate. This will be our first neighbourhood garage sale. Our goal is to make this more of a bi-annual community event (spring cleaning and fall cleaning).

Attached is a poster that Phuong, one of the organizers of the event, will drop off. Your help is appreciated in sharing the information on this event with your residents, and by displaying this poster in your elevators until the event’s date next week.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at cityplacera@gmail.com

Major Parks and Projects to be covered:

parks meeting

1. Canoe Landing Park

Canoe Landing Park Opened in 2010 and includes significant public art pieces, an artificial turf field, a natural turf field and serves as a central outdoor space for hosting public events. Community volunteers will build and maintain a new natural ice skating rink in winter 2016.

2. Mouth of the Creek Park

A design concept for Mouth of the Creek Park was presented in 2013. The detailed design is currently being developed and includes a natural playscape inspired by neighboring Fort York National Historic Site. Located at the mouth of Garrison Creek on the original Lake Ontario shoreline. The park will relate to the new Fort York Library branch and connect Northern Linear Park under Bathurst Street to Fort York.

3. Block 31 Community Complex

Opening in September 2019, this public complex will include a City of Toronto community centre and daycare facility, along with public and Catholic elementary schools for 1,000 students. An outdoor play area will be adjacent to Canoe Landing Park and open to the public after school hours.

4. Project: Under Gardiner

A generous $25 million gift from Judy and Wil Matthews will create more than 10 acres of new public space and 1.75 km of multi-use trail beneath the elevated expressway from Spadina Ave to just west of Strachan Ave. It will be a new outdoor living room for the 70,000 residents who live nearby. An off-leash dog area has been proposed for the stretch between Dan Leckie Way and Spadina Avenue.
