TELUS Day of Giving Event Was a Success at Canoe Landing Park

TELUS Day of Giving Event Was a Success at Canoe Landing Park

The Board of the CityPlace Residents’ Association (CPRA) thanks the 70+ staff contingent from Telus who participated in Telus Day of Giving ‘million hours of giving’ community service volunteering at Canoe Landing Park on Thursday, June 1, 2017.

The CPRA applauds the community-oriented caring of Telus and the hard work of the Telus staff on its Day of Giving! The CityPlace community clean up was made immeasurably more fun and efficient with the partnership of community leaders such as Telus.

Reports are that the volunteers mulched 75 trees, cleaned up over 4 hectares of space and collected about 200 lbs of garbage!

The CPRA is a non-partisan non-profit organization advocating for community betterment in the CityPlace neighbourhood, and in particular, its public spaces including the privately owned publicly accessible spaces (POPS), Linear Parks, and Canoe Landing Park.

We extend a deep thank you for Telus’ commitment to making our community clean and green!

TRCA – Flood Watch in effect until cancelled

Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA)

Flood Watch

Weather Conditions
Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) advises that up to 20 mm of the forecasted 70 mm of rain has fallen throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in the past 6 hours. The system is predicted to taper on Saturday.

Water levels within TRCA’s watercourses are rising due to the rainfall and there is the potential that water levels will exceed its riverbanks resulting in riverine flooding.

Due to high soil moisture content in the region and the forecasted rainfall amount, all rivers within the GTA will be experiencing higher flows and water levels, resulting in dangerous conditions. The water levels in many of TRCA’s watercourses are still rising and have yet to peak including the Don River. In addition, the higher lake level has reduced the channel capacity that results in a potential for flooding of roads and trails along streams and rivers including the Bayview Avenue extension and the Don Valley Parkway and low-lying areas. We are closely monitoring other transportation routes and sites adjacent to potentially impacted watercourses.

Please note – this Watershed Conditions Statement addresses river-related flood risks. Please click here for information related to Lake Ontario levels and hazards.

Please exercise extreme caution around all bodies of water and avoid driving in low-lying areas and roadways particularly at underpasses, as well as the shoreline. Please alert any children under your care of these dangerous conditions and supervise their activities. Be alert for possible transportation delays and road closures.

Toronto and Region Conservation will continue to monitor the weather and watershed conditions and will issue further messages as necessary. This Flood Watch will be in effect until cancelled. For more information please contact the on-call Flood Duty Officer.
