Addressing Sidewalk Closure During Rush Hour

Due to the single pedestrian crossing of Spadina Avenue at this location (which City Council has approved fixing and we are pushing City staff every day to prioritize construction of the south crossing) and the high volume of pedestrians throughout the neighbourhood, we agree that it is completely unacceptable to close the north sidewalk of Bremner without providing a safe, wide, protected pedestrian walkway around the construction zone in the adjacent lane of traffic.”

Response from office of local councillor – Ward 10: “We saw your tweet about the Bremner sidewalk earlier. Thanks for bringing the problem to our attention. As a result, we forwarded the photos to Transportation Services and an inspector visited the site before noon, confirming that no permit was issued and charging the responsible contractor. The sidewalk is supposed to be accessible to pedestrians. Please let us know if the barriers still have not been removed by the morning so we can escalate the matter.
